Penn Theater    I've always longed to sit in a dark movie theater with a giant tub of popcorn and a tall, perspiring fountain drink and watch some of the old movies I've never had the opportunity to see on the big screen, but living in an era where giant blockbuster films hog the theaters, it's rare to see any of the classics.  But now, with Penn Theatre's "Thursday Classics," a bit of nostalgia is right at our fingertips.

Rachel thumbnail    Penn Theatre, which has been around since 1941, is located on Penniman in downtown Plymouth near The Plymouth Library, the Coffee Bean, and my personal favorite, Sean O'Callaghan's Irish Pub.  Aside from showing second-run movies regularly, The Penn Theatre plays classic movies every Thursday, changing themes each month.  Last month's theme was British Invasion (my mother was an enthusiastic attendee of The Beatles' classic A Hard Days' Night, no doubt reverting to her plaid-wearing, BeatleMania days), next month is Sci-Fi, and this month is Hitchcock.

The Penn is showing four classic movies from the Master of Suspense throughout March.  Shown already were Strangers on a Train and Dial M for Murder.  Scheduled March 20 is North by Northwest and The Trouble with Harry is set to play on March 27.  The Thursday Classics play at 7 p.m for only $3 a ticket, with friendly volunteers working throughout the vintage vicinity.  Free tickets are available at various businesses in Plymouth, so be sure to check out more information at penntheatre.com .

If you're in the mood for a good spook this Thursday (or a nice alien invasion next month), check out Thursday Classics at The Penn.  Classic movie lovers will appreciate this authentic throwback to the theaters of yore.
